100 Pages!

100 pages of Holocrash today! Well I suppose this is cause for a small celebration. So here we go - Yay!

Time for a status review I think:
A page a day for the last 100 days. It's been hard work getting a page a day out and I am thinking of reducing it down to 3 a week, say Monday Wednesday and Friday. That will give me more time to concentrate on 3d modelling which is something I am desperately trying to get better at. I would like to use some home grown 3d content rather than off the shelf stuff.

Chapter Two drawing to a close

As chapter two nears the end we find the main characters in very different circumstances.
Teela and Gena would appear to be having the worst of it, while Krill T'Ak and Gorg seem to have landed on their feet.
But as Dr Phrend continues with his experiments on the remote probe, and Kor T'Reh explores the ancient dig site where the devices were found, events will be triggered that change things for everyone.

Things are hotting up in Holocrash!

As Creative Director on Holocrash (that's me Smee440) I fought long and hard with the other members of the team, particularily the Marketing Director (that'd be me Smee440 too), to stop this happening but unfortunately I lost out. It was a bitter exchange and some pretty nasty things were implied, if not said outright. It is going to take quite a while for some of these rifts to heal I can tell you, oh yes.

Anyway the upshot of it all is that there will be more flesh, of various hues and textures, on display in the up and coming Holocrash comic pages. I (Creative Director Smee440) like to think that the pages where flesh is on display are justified by the storyline and by the fact that it is really ever so hot where they are, no really it is.

I guess you the readers will have to make your own minds up.

November 1st, 2009 - News

First - New character info sheet up on the character page. Henk & Crench have now made an appearance in Holocrash and have earned the right to have their details published. Mind you if I had my way I would have delayed it for a bit just to 'p' them off, nasty pieces of work that they are!

Second bit of news is that a smee440 render 'The Chase' has been picked as the Image of the Month for November 2009 over at Desktop Starships. Cool!

Well that made my day!

Don't get me wrong I'm making this comic because I really enjoy doing it and I'm putting in the endless hours of grafting to a) produce something that I can be proud of, and b) find out what happens next!

Having said that it is still nice to get a bit of feedback and today, after nearly 15,000 page views I have received my first comment on smackjeeves, well anywhere actually!

So many thanks to 'Hang On' for the following:

Your doing great. Interesting comic so far.

If I could give 'Hang On' a prize I would, perhaps a signed panel/page or something. Leave a comment here 'Hang On' and I will see what I can do.

Holocrash - The Whys and the Wherefores...

I have always enjoyed art. When I was a teenager and found myself in hospital for a few weeks getting a dodgy knee looked at I started doing pencil portraits of the other patients to pass the time and to earn some cash. I think they all took pity on me because I wasn't very good at drawing really. Probably a lot to do with a lack of that important ingrediant - talent.

Over the years I have dabbled with various art mediums but as with the pencil portraits I wasn't able to get the end results to match what I had envisaged in my mind.

That is until now.
With the advent of faster computers, graphics chips and other technical stuff I can now render out images that pretty much match my ideas. Using software like Vue, Poser, Modo, Carrara and Particle Illusion for all the fancy whizzy bits I can create images that look the way I want them to.

So that's the images sorted, the other important element is the story. A lot of the images that I create make me think of a back story to go with them, and although you can add quite lengthy comments to images that are posted on sites like Renderosity I always felt that it did not do the image justice and probably wasn't the right place to be doing it anyway.

Then I discovered webcomics! This was just what I was looking for, a medium for my image based stories to come to life. After some research online I decided to give a comic creating tool called Comic Life a try and immediately got on well with it. I used my various 3d packages to render out the comic panels and pretty soon I had a fairly efficient pipeline going that allowed me to churn out pages relatively quickly.

After a bit more research I picked Smackjeeves to host the comic and well here we are a month down the line and chapter one of Holocrash is published with chapter two coming on nicely.
